As you can see from the satellite image below, Vancouver Island and mainland
British Columbia have
a lot of coastline. Add
to this all of the islands
in BC and the total amount
of coastline is a staggering
27,000 km or 16,900 miles.
This is over twice the
diameter of the earth
(12,742 km or 7,900 miles).
The coastline is also
highly variable, being
made up of large and small
islands, islets, rocky
shores and headlands,
reefs, inlets, fjords,
sandy beaches, estuaries,
tidal lagoons and more.
This is one of the reasons
why coastal British Columbia
is a premier kayaking
destination that attracts
nature lovers from around
the world.
Use the satellite image
below to do some virtual
exploring and see just
exactly what we mean when
we say coastal
BC is a kayaker's Paradise.
Pay particular attention
to the yellow circles
where you can book a guided
sea kayaking tour with
Steller Sea Kayaking.
