Sea Kayaking Vancouver Island

Why do we run Steller Sea Kayaking from Salt Spring Island? In addition to being one of the most spectacular paddling destinations it the Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring has a Mediterranean climate and a geography that is rich and varied: rugged mountains, open meadows and grassy hilltops, a patchwork of Garry oak, Douglas-fir, and Arbutus trees, vegetated coastal cliffs and bluffs, rocky islets and shorelines, and a rich mosaic of wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and mosses. The island boasts 22 beaches, 8 freshwater lakes, and some of the warmest swimming beaches in coastal BC.

Salt Spring is also home to a vibrant arts and crafts community that supports an internationally acclaimed Saturday Market where you can find potters, jewelers, fiber artists, woodworkers, sculptors, photographers, painters, soap makers, candle makers, confectionaries, local cheeses, organic foods, tie-dye, music, and free festive fun. When you travel to Vancouver Island to kayak with Steller we recommend you travel via Salt Spring Island and see for yourself why we choose to make the island our home and base of operations.

While you're there, check out our friends Jack and Candace who lead kayaking, mountaineering, and climbing tours in the Gulf Islands.
