| KRIS
WILHELMSEN
Kris dabbled before he got serious
and bought his first boat. In his
geological days he traveled to remote,
environmentally sensitive wilderness
areas in the Pacific Northwest, southeast
Alaska,
and the Arctic. In his academic days
he attended graduate school at the
University of Washington and studied
archaeology, geology, and evolutionary
theory. Over 18 summers he traveled
to England, France, and the Pacific
Northwest conducting research, teaching
archaeological field schools, and
supervising archaeological projects.
In his internet days he spent three
years working for a network routing
company in Seattle before immigrating
to BC to begin his more serious boating
days. For the past three years Kris
has been a professional sea kayak
guide, instructing kayaking clinics
and leading multi-day expeditions
in the Gulf Islands, Barkley Sound,
and Clayoquot Sound. His interests
include prehistoric settlement and
subsistence on the northwest coast,
the history of infectious diseases,
First Nations and European settlement
history in coastal BC, the ecology
of intertidal marine organisms, and
ecological literacy. His partner Kim
is a photographer who teaches college
(anthropology, archaeology, and history),
and his son Julian is an avid longboarder,
unicyclist, and media critic.

| STEVE
SCHELLENBERG
Steve's love of floating craft started
at a young age, when he paddled canoes,
kayaks and sailboats on the many streams,
rivers and lakes of Manitoba. "If
it floated, I wanted to
try to paddle it!" remembers
Steve. Steve's past occupations include
Zamboni driving, life-guarding, bee-keeping
and working on many varied building
projects. He also worked to rehabilitate
the endangered "Newfoundland Pine
Marten" in Terra Nova National Park.
Steve has inherited a passion for
travel and wandering that has had
him living in and exploring six Canadian
provinces, paddling kayaks and dugout
canoes in Guatemala and Nicaragua,
guiding sea kayak and sailing adventures
in Belize and all around Vancouver
island, as well as caretaking a grizzly
bear lodge up in the Central Coast
of British Columbia. In addition to
being a certified sea kayak guide
Steve is an Instructor with the Recreational
Canoeing Association of BC, a certified
diver, and a graduate of the Tracking,
Nature and Wilderness Survival School
in Boulder Creek, CA. His current
passion is adventuring with his partner
Suzanna on their 30 foot Columbian
Sailboat, "Carpe Diem". |
